Foiled is a TCG-centric feature film set to shoot in December of 2026. For the movie, an original TCG called Fae Arcana: Ruined Tides (Faecana for short) is being developed by a powerful art/dev team comprised of a professional illustrator/animator and a lifelong TCG and board game enthusiast. While there aren't plans to develop the game as a full product for large-scale release outside the movie, we want the movie's game to be authentic and playable, so there will be decks available to buy in order to raise funds for the film. This is a rare opportunity to play a film-exclusive, passionately constructed TCG like no other!
Movie:
One night. One card. At a small town’s local Cards & Stuff, four friends are about to have their loyalties tested as they discover that a card of life-changing worth is very likely to have just arrived, hidden among the hundreds of packs in a shipment of new releases. What makes a card valuable? What makes a game fun? This low-budget feature film looks to celebrate and interrogate the things that card game enthusiasts love and hate about their hobby.
Foiled is a small-scale production, with a planned cast and crew of 16 people and a budget of $40,000. It is efficiently planned to be filmed entirely in a fabricated card shop with a story taking place over one night. Our goal in writing it this way was to create a doable, approachable production that will raise the chance of completing the project while opening opportunities for creative cinematography.

The movie follows the release of Faecana's newest expansion, Bog Tide Terror. As such, the cards produced for the film will stylistically revolve around Faecana's treacherous swamplands and the invaders therein. Swamp creatures, deep- water witches, knights having to abandon armor if they want to make it through the tough terrain...

Characters:
Greg
Immature, Self-centered, Whimsical

He's the biggest fish in his pond, and happy to brag about it. Technically he could make trips to bigger venues and compete with stronger players, but there's always a convenient excuse in the way of proving himself. His friends are familiar with and tired of this attitude, often poking fun at him and not taking his goals seriously. Why should they when he doesn't?
Abram
Level-headed, Non-confrontational, Nostalgic
Abram works at the store he grew up playing in because he likes to stick to what's comfortable, but deeper than that he wants to contribute to and protect the place that's special to him. He starts to feel like he's outgrown his friends and has to be the adult, but it doesn't stop his love for games.
Ida
Insecure, Outspoken, Defensive
Ida isn't afraid to jump in and snap on other people's behalf, and often puffs herself up bigger than she truly feels to do so. While her inner self seeks validation and comfort, her outer self insists she doesn't need any of that. Since she feels the need to look after others anyway, often she takes a commanding and confident role in a room.
Felix
Easy-going, Observant, Eager
Felix can roll with punches, but also acts as enthusiastic enabler to bad ideas. He aspires to be considerate, but hides deep needs that he shifts to prioritizing as things get dicey. Seemingly the most chill and innocuous, he easily gets spastic and desperate when pushed.
Spender
He opens packs
Spender is more of an aura than a person, coming to hit the whimsical shop with hard reality. He has a calculated goal that is unflinching, and no concern for the needs or wants of anyone else. He's there to open packs, and leaves when he's done opening packs.
